Recently, author, lecturer and healer Annie Padden Jubb opened up the wonderful LifeFood Organic restaurant/shop on the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga in Hollywood. Having read her enlightening book Secrets of an Alkaline Body: The New Science of Colloidal Biology and sampled her and chef Laurel’s wonderful creations (they have an incredible raw lasagna made of zuccini noodles marinated in olive oil, sea salt, black pepper and oregano, with a cashew, Irish moss basil mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, pesto, marinara, and basil leaves) we had to sit down for a chat.
Annie is known as an authority in detoxification and cellular regeneration, and a pioneer in bio-based nutrition that focuses on raw, life foods. In addition to LifeFood Organic, she has owned and operated The Raw Experience Restaurant in San Francisco, hosted and produced the Universe Inside Your Mind TV show, and opened Jubb’s Longevity, Inc, a store in Manhattan that retails LifeFood products of her own creation that aid in detoxification and cellular nutrition. She has also been trained in neurolinguistic programming, taught clinical hypnosis, and is sought after worldwide for her engaging lectures and result-driven health consultations. Read More…

National Nutrition Month (March) is almost over, and as we welcome the sunshine and heat everyone must be thinking two things: Spring cleaning (home, closets, garage) and Spring cleanse (body detox…beach body!) But here is something you may not know about that goes hand-in-hand with body detox: Mental Toxicity. In this Spring cleaning state-of-mind (no pun intended), let us give you a heads up on this very important part of detox that people generally do not seem to acknowledge, in spite of it being so crucial for real cleansing and optimal health.
Mental toxins are all the negative thoughts, emotions, associations, and memories that hunt us, archives of “programs” (as I like to call them) that exist in the back of your mind or subconsciousness. Many of these programs, mental discomforts/distortions that you have ignored and not dealt with, negative feelings and thoughts that have not been analyzed, broken down, worked out and understood, are still inside of you in the form of mental toxic waste. This mental toxicity hanging around in your your mind, literally “weighs” you down because it is energetically heavy and dense, and if it is not cleansed it will resurface at some point and attack you when you least expect it, and quite probably turn into the physical imbalance we call illness. Today is the day you have been waiting for.
On New Year’s Eve, there was an eclipse/blue moon that activated us and put us on a path of change, cleansing and regeneration. This is a new year – a better year – and everyone we’ve spoken with can feel the goodness, even see it. Things are moving forward. They’re working out. Other stuff, inner stuff, pending stuff, is moving out from your cellular memory, through your mind and to the surface, showing up in your body. Your body is a map – it tells you what is going on inside of you that you cannot see. And you may have been seeing a lot of change.
Perhaps you have been feeling uncomfortable – sick even – physically…maybe you’ve been upset and had one of those “no more, I will not do this ever again” moments with a particular habit or pattern you have identified and want to dismiss for good. Read More…
Fruit Salad by HLife Photography
In the detoxing spirit of January, we thought we would remind you of a great breakfast option and its benefits: fruit salad. Fruits are always best in the morning because of their fructose (natural sugar) content that gives us the energy we need (instead of getting a quick pick-me-up from acid-forming caffeinated coffee) slowly, because their fiber makes the breakdown process slow down. Fruits are rich in antioxidants, water, vitamins, and minerals. Their high water and fiber content makes them very cleansing for the body. The difference between fruit salads depends on the fruit combination, how well it is mixed, and if the produce is organic. I’m 150% convinced that organic produce tastes way better then conventional, and since the purpose of eating is NUTRITION, we definitely prefer the organic stuff rich in nutrients versus the nutrient-depleted conventional produce. (Refer to our Why Organic? post) Read More…

Everyone is in detox mode in January – new year, new goals, new body. Great – let’s add to that: Let’s do a detox for the mind.
Detoxing the mind at the same time that we detox the body is extremely important because these two areas of you go hand-in-hand. Sometimes your body tells your mind what to do. But, mostly, it is your mind that is telling your body what to do. So, detoxing your mind is a natural step to detoxing your body.
What do we mean by detoxing the mind? Detoxing the mind means getting rid of triggers, thoughts, ideas, images and sounds that do not serve a positive purpose for your nourishment. As HLife is all about a healthy lifestyle and not a one-time temporary solution, it is also about maintaining awareness of what comes into and what goes out of your mind – being in control of your thoughts and focusing on healthy “mental food”. Dear HLife: I’m trying to detox my whole body. What would be my first step to do, without going to the extreme of the Master Cleanse?
Dear HLifer,
There is a misconception that detoxing is a quick-fix for a bad lifestyle. Detoxing is a temporary relief, and when you are to the point of considering a detox, what you should really be considering is overall healthier lifestyle habits. Health is a lifestyle, not a quick fix. Read More…

The liver is the human body’s most functionally diverse organ. Not only does this guy multitask, it also interacts with most of the body’s organ systems for various reasons. To make this ultra clear, let’s pretend it is an employee that wears many hats and works different jobs:
- The liver is like Fed-Ex. It interacts with the circulatory system as it picks up glucose (simple sugar that acts as fuel for your body) from the blood.
- The liver is a gas station. It holds glucose that your body doesn’t need at the moment in the form of glycogen, and then, when your body calls for it, changes it back glucose so that it can be distributed through your blood as the fuel (energy) you need in order to, for example, go for a run.
- The liver is a manufacturer. It synthesizes (makes) plasma proteins important for blood clotting and for the osmotic (fluid/water) balance of the blood.
- The liver is an executive assistant. As one of the major glands that aid in digestion, it produces bile that helps digest fats.
- The liver is a janitor. It detoxifies your body of poisons and prepares metabolic waste for disposal. Read More…
