OK, so there’s violence. And the Bible. But according to twin brother directors Albert and Allen Hughes and actors Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis, The Book of Eli is not a movie about good or evil. Nor is it a religious movie. It’s all about belief, purpose, hope and, well, whatever you want to bring to it yourself. It’s a lot like life: The story of a man on a journey, protecting something of value to him. It just so happens to be the last Bible on the face of a post-apocalyptic Earth, and, quite possibly, humanity’s only hope for survival.

In Hinduism, the word avatar refers to a god incarnated into man for the purpose of dharma – to restore order in the Universe. Though this has a different meaning at the beginning of James Cameron’s film by the same name, it is clear that this is what the writer-director intended for Jake Scully (Sam Worthington), the hero of the story.
With Avatar, the legendary creator of films like Alien, The Abyss, Terminator, and Titanic said he wanted to “create a familiar type of adventure in an unfamiliar environment.” And that is exactly what he did. Read More…

And since we are all about transcending time and space here at HLife, we were thrilled when we found out that one of our favorite channels, SyFy, was presenting a classically inspired two-part series called Alice.
Based on two of author/mathematician Lewis Carroll’s best-known books – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass – Alice is a modern-day interpretation of the story of a girl that falls into a land of fantastical characters ruled by a queen, and faces many challenges on her way back to the real world.
