On Wearing Your Heart on Your Sleeve

You say you wear your heart on your sleeve, we say you wear your heart where it belongs – inside your chest. There is a reason you have ribs, lungs, skin and all the stuff that cushions the heart: It is delicate, and it should be protected. Because it is the motor that keeps your body, and your energy, running. It keeps you alive – physically, emotionally and otherwise. And nobody should have the ability to tamper with that. It is up to you to open your heart to SOMEONE THAT DESERVES IT – whether in romantic relationships, or any other kind of relationship. Don’t wear it on your sleeve. That’s where your arm belongs. ORDER.

Organic Label Tip

If your fruit or veggies are not under a sign that lets you know they are organic, or if you can’t see the USDA organic seal anywhere, here’s a tip: The little sticker on your piece of produce with the name of the farm/provider should have a serial number. This serial number for organic products begin with the number 9.  Conventionally grown (non-organic products) start with the number 4.  You can see an example of organic produce labels in this picture.

To Drink or Not to Drink…

…water, that is. Water is great all day every day, but there are two exceptions: Twenty minutes before and twenty minutes after a meal, hold of on the H2O goodness. Digestion requires hydrochloric acid (very low pH to break food down) in the stomach, and water (having a higher pH of neutral 7) dilutes it, so you want to keep water at bay during meals for optimal digestion. No “washing it down” – let the saliva, enzymes, and acid do their jobs!

Vegan Egg Substitute for Baking

Wanna make your pies without using eggs? To hold stuff together the way eggs do, use flaxseed. Grind flax seeds and substitute like so:  1 egg = 1 Tbsp of ground flaxseed + 3 Tbsp water

Let it sit for a few and it will become gooey, like eggs.  Note: Don’t use for meringue (whipped egg whites) as flaxseed won’t foam. But feel free to add to pancakes and other stuff that doesn’t need to be whipped into foam!

Fetco: Eco-Friendly Picture Frames

Browsing through the home decor section while Christmas shopping, I found some lovely wood picture frames by Fetco International – and they were eco-conscious.  According to the statement on the frame, Fetco only makes their wood frames (the line is called Eco Wood  and is available at Amazon.com) from renewable resources (this was a plaintain tree) and, for every tree they used, the company planted another one in its place. Nice.

Zero VOC Paint | Eco-Friendly And Beautiful

For those of us who love to re-decorate and re-paint rooms in our homes often, this tip is so amazing! I just finished painting my bedroom with Benjamin Moore’s virtually orderless paint line called Natura.  Finally, we can breathe easily while painting beautiful colors with paint that is good for the environment and nontoxic for us. It dried up in 30 minutes. I was so happy with the results.  www.benjaminmoore.com/natura
